Southern Methodist University’s Public Relations Student Society of America chapter (PRSSA) stole the show at the National PRSSA Conference this year, winning three national awards — Outstanding Chapter Development, Outstanding PRSA/PRSSA Relationship and Outstanding Faculty Advisor. SMU’s PRSSA organization was founded just one year ago, spearheaded by Brooks & Associates’ own Jamie Leon who served as student founder and president.

“Hats off to PRSSA and to Jamie for leading the charge,” said Christy Baily-Byers, PRSSA Faculty Advisor and Senior Lecturer, Southern Methodist University Corporate Communication & Public Affairs.  “Founding a professional organization is never easy, and to take a start-up all the way to national recognition in a single year is very impressive.  These awards reflect the hard work and dedication of Jamie and her team to build an outstanding chapter dedicated to the best public relations has to offer.”

The SMU chapter received these awards for bringing a career workshop, prestigious speakers and company tours to students in the communications department, helping to foster ethical and professional PR practitioners.  Baily-Byers was instrumental in coaching chapter leaders, bringing SMU and community resources to the chapter and providing countless hours of mentoring and hands-on guidance to the new organization. PRSSA is an important foundation for students seeking to establish a career in the public relations industry.

Brooks & Associates Public Relations has supported the SMU Cox School Executive Education Program for the past three years.  Jamie joined Brooks & Associates as PR Assistant in September, 2009.  She currently supports major academic and retail clients in the DFW Metroplex area.
